Centre and Rentals Manager: Day to Day Management and Administrative tasks in relation to the management of Sunshine International Arts’ Community Centre and Café – C.A.F.E ‘Carnival-Arts-For-Everyone’

Reporting to: Ray Mahabir, Artistic Director (Line Manager) 

Key Responsibilities: Managing and overseeing the centre’s operations. Management of the rental spaces and delivery of events. Administration on a day to day basis to deliver business results while meeting service and profitability targets

Job Type: Casual 1-2 days a week

Salary: £11- £15 depending on experience

Based in South London, we are one of the leading artistic, educational and carnival production companies locally. The company runs an arts-orientated community centre based in the heart of Loughborough Junction, Brixton: C.A.F.E – Carnival-Arts-For-Everyone. C.A.F.E. is an imaginative and creative space that serves as a meeting point for south London’s arts and crafts community. We offer a summer programme of activities centering around Carnival Arts, and hire our spaces for private, corporate and community events.

Key Objectives:  

  • To be responsible for the daily management of Sunshine International Arts Centre.
  • To manage, organise and attend all events and rentals at the centre and increase online visibility of S.i.A’s rental spaces.
  • To maintain customer service standards and be the first port of call for enquiries, complaints and emergencies.
  • To provide an administrative service to support the artistic work of the company and effectively manage all aspects of the company’s administration and financial operations. 

1. Rental Management:
ï  To be responsible for managing rental bookings through email
ï  To arrange and deliver space viewings
ï To regularly update online rental space listings
ï To manage social media accounts in regards to Rentals
ï  To be responsible for keeping an efficient, up to date and accurate centre activities   
   diary
ï To manage financial aspects related to rentals and bookings at the centre such as issuing of invoice and Keeping a banking log.
ï To effectively organise and run a wide range of events in the centre, either unassisted or with a team of event staff
ï Establish and maintain an appropriate company rental databases (within the parameters of the Data Protection Act).
ï  To liaise with artists, businesses, voluntary/outreach/community groups and other organisations using the centre.

2. Café and Centre Management:
ï To acquaint himself/herself with current regulations relating to Health and Safety at Work. ï To be responsible for cash and till management
ï Set a high standard and good example for part time café staff with regard to cleanliness and hygiene to be maintained at all times including delegating a regular deep clean schedule. 

3 General: 

ï Recruit, manage and train the part time café team and volunteers, ensuring they work to the expected standards at all times
ï Adhere to stated policies and procedures relating to health and safety and act as nominated Health and Safety Officer ensuring that risk assessments are completed when necessary and company staff are kept up to date regarding Health and Safety procedures. 

ï To assist the Artistic Director where necessary, handling ad-hoc responsibilities.

ï To work within and have a commitment to developing Equal Opportunities in all areas of company practice.

Person Specification, essential skills, qualities and experience: 

 ï At least 2 years’ experience in working in a hospitality/catering setting
ï Experience working in administration

ï Experience of responsibility and maintenance of a working environment 

ï Proven interest in the arts/ carnival/ cultural events 

ï Excellent communication skills including email writing and telephone

ï Excellent attention to detail, ability to work independently and be self-motivated 

ï Computer literate especially with Word, Excel and email 

ï A good memory and the ability and willingness to take on and juggle various tasks

ï Knowledge of Social Media

ï Understanding of fundraising

ï Willingness to work flexibly

ï  An ability to prioritise tasks 

ï  Flexibility and a good sense of humour 

Desirable skills: 

ï Experience in management and administration of an arts organisation or cultural venue

ï An involvement in the arts /carnival arts

ï Knowledge of the inner workings of Arts Council England and other funders
