Are you? Our Carnival Mas Camp\, when you can join in the making for our yearly productions is back! Drop in to learn new skills\, volunteer and learn about carnival. To keep in the loop subscribe to our newsletter by dropping us an email on adminATsunshineiarts.co.uk. \nAll Mas Bands (Mas- as in Masquerades – Band- the group of people dressed in costumes) have headquarters. A Mas Camp is a camp set up for the production of carnival costumes. Mas Camp is open to all. \nThis is also a place to meet people\, learn about making costume\, explore your creativity\, socialise\, listen to the latest carnival music- Soca ( and some of the oldies Calypso)\, eat homemade curries and enjoy  the melting pot of the culture of carnival. \nMEET THE DESIGNER\nCome along to our Mas Camp and meet our Artistic Director\, Ray Mahabir. This is a unique opportunity to ask questions and learn about carnival from a designer who has worked in the sector for over three decades.Drawing on his Indo Caribbean roots\, Ray Mahabir is known for his innovative approach to the masquerading tradition of Trinidad Carnival\, winning countless awards for his designs and working alongside institutions such as the V&A\, Black Cultural Archives and the British Library.

DESCRIPTION:Brixton will be celebrating its local markets at part of the UK-wide Love Your Local Market Week from Friday 26 May – Wednesday 31 May. Brixton has a rich history of markets and market trading not seen elsewhere in London – and organisers are determined to bring people to the area as well as encourage the local community to come out and have fun. \nS.i.A will have its own stall on Electric Avenue\, where we will be exhibiting items from our Mulana range and will be giving locals the chance to try on our carnival headresses. All profits will go towards our charitable projects: Mulana and our children’s carnival.  \nDuring Love Your Local Market week\, there will be plenty of activities for everyone – young and old – with stalls\, celebrity breakfast\, face painting\, clowns\, stilt walkers\, DJs\, live bands and walking tours. \nThis year’s event is organised by the Brixton BID (Business Improvement District) in partnership with Lambeth council\, Groupe Geraud\, Brixton Pound\, Brixton Market Traders Federation CIC \, and Lambeth Forest Network /Tree Shepherd.
