Reporting to: Artistic Director & Centre Manager 

Role: This is an ideal opportunity for a hard working individual with an interest in the arts and/or carnival with some experience in hospitality looking for a casual and flexible position.

Job Type: Casual 1-2 days a week

Salary: London Living Wage

The carnival company and charity Sunshine International Arts is looking for a Casual Centre, Café and artistic Support/Assistant to assist with a variety of tasks on a casual basis. Based in South London, we are one of the leading artistic, educational and carnival production companies locally. The company runs an arts-orientated community centre based in the heart of Loughborough Junction, Brixton: C.A.F.E – Carnival-Arts-For-Everyone. C.A.F.E. is an imaginative and creative space that serves as a meeting point for south London’s arts and crafts community. We offer a summer programme of activities centred around carnival,  and hire our spaces for private, corporate and community events.

Hospitality Support:

ï To deliver and maintain high customer service standards, with an ability to deal with and answer queries.

ï Be responsible for running the kitchen, bar and café during opening hours and in preparation for and during events.

ï To Ensure a very high level of cleanliness and hygiene to be maintained at all times, taking responsibility for all aspects of serving, clearing and cleaning, following all company and legal food safety requirements.

ï To follow and complete a regular deep clean schedule.

ï To assist during events held in the space and provide operational support to the Centre Manager

ï Be responsible for following all company procedures to ensure the kitchen and bar runs smoothly and efficiently during events.

Company and Centre Support:

ï  To open and close café during opening hours following the specific open/close procedures.

ï Liaise with the Artistic Director & Centre manager on a daily basis to assist on prioritized tasks.

ï To be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the centre 

ï To be responsible for cash and till management 

Artistic Support (Seasonal):

ï  To contribute flexibly to the assisting of the arts/carnival /craft workshops as C.A.F.E  duties permit.

ï To assist in the creative processes used in delivering a wide range of carnival arts and costumes.

ï  To assist the Artistic Director in preparation and delivery of for workshops / events.

ï  To Assist the Artistic Director and Manager when delivering carnival related performances as part of S.i.A’s programme of projects. Performances range from small scale carnival events and costume hire, to large scale outdoor carnivals as part of major projects.

ï  To ensure studio space clean and organised at all times

ï  Carry out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the post as reasonably requested. 

ï To contribute flexibly to the successful management of the arts/carnival /craft workshops as C.A.F.E  duties permit.

3. Project support (seasonal): 

ï To effectively assist the Artistic Director with Sunshine International Arts programme of projects and assist in  the production, delivery and evaluation of each project.

ï If necessary to represent the company at workshops and other projects.

ï To manage S,i.A’s team on site at events / performances. . 

Person Specification, essential skills, qualities and experience:

ï  Previous experience in a hospitality role

ï  A demonstrable passion for the arts/ crafts or carnival

ï  Excellent organisational skills and a high attention to details

ï  A good memory and the ability and willingness to take on and juggle various tasks 

ï  A willingness to learn and take on instructions as well as ability to take own initiative

ï Excellent communication skills 

ï Excellent attention to detail, ability to work independently and be self-motivated 

ï Willingness to work flexibly

ï  An ability to prioritise tasks

ï  Flexibility and a good sense of humour 

Desirable:

ï  Food Hygiene Certificate 

ï  DBS Checked

ï  Previous experience hosting workshops

ï  Local to Lambeth

ï  Previous involvement in The Arts / Carnival
