We are  looking for a Casual Centre and Café Support Assistant to assist with a variety of tasks on a casual basis. Based in South London, we are one of the leading artistic, educational and carnival production companies locally. The company runs an arts-orientated community centre based in the heart of Loughborough Junction, Brixton: C.A.F.E – Carnival-Arts-For-Everyone. C.A.F.E. is an imaginative and creative space that is a meeting point for south London’s arts and crafts community. We offer a range of carnival, food, arts and craft workshops and activities as well as hiring our spaces for private, corporate and community events.

Centre and Café Support Assistant: Administrative tasks related to the management of the company

Reporting to: Artistic Director & Centre Manager

Role: This is an ideal opportunity for a hard working individual with an interest in the arts and/or carnival with some experience in hospitality looking for a casual position.

Job Type: Casual 1-2 days a week

Salary: £8.50- £9.15 p/h depending on experience

Hospitality Support:

–     Run the bar and cafe on a casual basis during opening hours

–      Be responsible for assisting the kitchen, bar and cafe in preparation for and during events, being responsible for keeping areas clean and ready for service throughout. This will include serving, clearing, cleaning and washing up

–      To attend events and provide operational support to Centre Manager

–      Be responsible for promoting a clean and hygienic kitchen following all company and legal food safety requirements

–       Be responsible for following all company procedures to ensure the kitchen and bar runs smoothly and efficiently during events

Company and Centre Support:

  • To be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the building
  • To assist in the creative processes used in delivering costumes, masks, and props
  • Assist in day to day tasks in the studio, assisting the Artistic Director & Centre Manager
  • Play an essential role in ‘Mas Camp’, by providing assistance, advice and support for those taking part and volunteering
  • To assist the Artistic Director in preparing for workshops / events and in the delivery of workshops / events on the day
  • Assisting S.i.A’s Director when delivering performances as part of S.i.A’s programme of carnival related projects. Performances range from small scale carnival events and costume hire, to large scale outdoor carnivals as part of major projects
  • To maintain studio space clean and organised at all times
  • Any other ad hoc duties requested by the company

Person Specification:

–       Previous experience in a hospitality role

–       A demonstrable passion for the arts/ crafts or carnival

–       Excellent organisational and time management skills

–       A willingness to learn and take on instructions as well as ability to take own initiative

–       A willingness to work outside the normal working hours and participate in SiA’s events

Desirable:

–       Food Hygiene Certificate

–       Local to Lambeth
